Goal Weight Calculator

This calculator is to assist you in finding the approximate number of calories you need to burn each day to reach your weight loss goals, if you’re just trying to find how many calories you burn each day check out the Calorie Calculator.

When you are trying to lose weight a caloric deficit is a necessity. You must burn more calories than you consume, otherwise you will not lose weight. To remove calories from your diet you can consume less, be more active or a combination of the two. A deficit of 500-1000 calories per day is generally considered to be safe, with a 1000 calorie deficit being considered somewhat aggressive. I don’t recommend having a larger deficit than that. A daily 500-1000 calorie deficit roughly equates to losing one to two pounds per week. This does not mean it will necessarily all be fat. It’s also worth noting that even if you maintain a daily deficit of 500-1000 calories there are reasons you may gain weight along the way. This journey is certainly not one that is linear.

With that in mind this calculator can be used to give you a general guideline of where to start on your weight loss journey. The body is a complex machine and people respond differently to diet and exercise. If you are trying to lose weight the most important thing is to find the combination of diet and exercise that you can enjoy and maintain. It’s important to find a healthy lifestyle that you can maintain. I do not recommend using this calculator to go on a crash diet for a wedding, because summer is coming up or for any other short term reason. The intention of this calculator is to give you an idea of what will be required to get to a healthy weight and hopefully in the process help you live a healthier lifestyle.

ALWAYS consult your doctor before beginning any diet or exercise program.
